Empowering Youth in Climate Action

Youth Empowerment Making youth become agents of change

We educate and engage youth in climate resilience, preparing them to take active roles in their communities and global environmental issues.

Our programs focus on building youth leadership skills, providing them with tools to advocate for climate change action, and involving them in local and global initiatives.

Our Services

Sustainable Agriculture Farming

Sustainable Agriculture Farming

Our Sustainable Agriculture Farming service focuses on promoting agricultural techniques that enhance productivity while preserving the environment for future generations. We aim to help smallholder farmers adopt methods that increase yields, improve soil health, increase food production and reduce the environmental impact of farming activities.

Key practices include:

  • Climate-Smart Agriculture
  • Soil and Water Conservation
  • Integrated Crop-Livestock Systems
  • Irrigation Farming Using Solar Pumps
  • Market Linkages and Business Development

Services - Reforestation

Reforestation

Youth Empowerment We mobilize communities to plant trees for reforestation.

Reforestation involves planting trees on deforested or degraded lands, a key strategy to combat the effects of climate change and restore ecosystems. In Malawi, where deforestation rates are high, reforestation programs play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable development and environmental resilience.

Reforestation in Malawi:

Malawi loses approximately 29,000 hectares of forest annually due to agricultural expansion, charcoal production, and urbanization. Reforestation efforts have been instrumental in reversing these trends. For example, the "Green Malawi Initiative" has restored over 20,000 hectares of degraded land since 2015.

Success Story: In Dedza District, a community-led reforestation program planted over 1 million trees, leading to a 50% reduction in soil erosion and an increase in water table levels. This initiative also created jobs for over 500 local youth and women.

Over 70% of rural households in Malawi rely on firewood as their primary energy source. Reforestation has improved water retention in Lake Malawi's catchment areas, reducing the risk of droughts. Studies show a 30% increase in agricultural productivity in areas surrounded by forested land.

Why Reforestation Matters:

Reforestation enhances biodiversity by providing habitats for wildlife, increases carbon sequestration, and mitigates the impact of floods and droughts. It also empowers local communities by creating sustainable income opportunities through eco-tourism and non-timber forest products like honey and medicinal plants.

Key Benefits:

  • Restored soil fertility and improved agricultural yields
  • Increased carbon storage to combat global warming
  • Protection of water catchments and reduction of erosion
  • Creation of jobs and sustainable income opportunities

The Reforestation Gap

The gap between the need for reforestation and the actual implementation of reforestation projects is significant. To bridge this gap, it is essential to:
  • Increase Investment: Increased investment in reforestation is crucial to scale up efforts and achieve ambitious targets.
  • Strengthen Partnerships: Collaboration between governments, NGOs, and local communities is essential for successful reforestation initiatives.
  • Promote Sustainable Land Use: Sustainable land-use practices, such as agroforestry and sustainable agriculture, can help to reduce deforestation and promote reforestation.
  • Empower Local Communities: Empowering local communities to participate in and benefit from reforestation efforts is essential for long-term success.
